Flowfit Senior Merit Preview: 4th Quarter

We look at the final Quarter of the Flowfit Senior Merit on Sunday. 25. Paul Bradburne (Wrockwardine Wood) Mid-Shropshire form: 7 out of 9 Paul has an excellent record in the Mid-Shropshire Merit, having reached the final on two occasions, unfortunately losing both. So he knows how to go far on a finals day but the County Merit is totally different. He enjoyed a good start in Division One of the Mid-Shropshire winning 7 out of his first 9 matches, and will be hoping that form will show through on Sunday. 26. Alan Davidson (Newport) Premier League form: 8 out of 11 Alan has won the Merit twice before, in 2004 and 2009, so knows how to win this competition! He struggled last season with using new glasses, but has bounced back to the Ticker of old this winning 8 out of his first 11 games in the Premier League. He is a player capable of winning this showpiece event again, and will be one of the favourites to do so. 27. Pete Farmer (Newport) Premier League form: 1 out of 2 Pete has been there and done the Merit, winning it four times and appearing in four more, including last years! He dominated the Merit between 2005 and 2007, the only player to win it three years in a row and would love a return to that form. However this season he has hardly played because of his knees, featuring only twice for Newport and a few times for Childs Ercall in the Whitchurch League, so this might count against him. But you can never rule Pete Farmer out of a Merit, and for that reason he will be one of those to watch out for! 28. Russ Pugh (Castlefields) Premier League form: 0 out of 5 Russ has struggled so far in the Premier League this season and will be looking to rediscover the form that he showed in the league last season when he won 9 out of 14. He has a tough first game but will be hoping to take advantage of Pete's lack of playing to spring a surprise and have a good run. 29. Darren Wellings (Meole Brace) Premier League form: 10 out of 12 Darren has been in awesome form this season, winning 10 out of his 12 Premier League games and both his county games. He reached the Semi Finals last year and will be hoping to go one better this year and has good competition pedigree to do so, winning the Premier League Merit in previous years, so knows what it takes to beat the best and have a good run! 30 Andy Duckett (Castlefields) Premier League form: 8 out of 12 Andy is always a player that can have a good run in any competition, but has yet to stamp his mark on the Merit or a big competition in Shropshire. He has enjoyed a good start to the season, winning 8 out of 12 in the Premier League, and his temperament is so laid back that you can't tell how his game is going, so is a player very much capable of a big run! 31. Matt Beeston (District) Whitchurch League form: 7 out of 11 Matt has enjoyed a good start to the Whitchurch League season winning 7 out of 11 at District, where he won 16 out of 26 games last season. This is the first time he has qualified for the Senior Merit and will be looking to make his mark first time round and make a name for himself. 32. Martin Middleton (Meole Brace) Premier League form: 1 out of 5 Martin made the switch to Meole Brace from Ford last season and enjoyed a good season in the Tanners League winning 11 out of 17. He has made the step up to the Premier League this season and this experience will help him make his debut at the Merit.
