Veterans Merit Qualifiers Preview

Tomorrow is the Veterans Merit Qualifiers and current holder Mick Jones from Newport will be hoping to retain his crown he won last year. He takes part at Sinclair along with former winners John Coxill from Craven Arms and Adderley's Alan Boulton, as well as County Handicap semi finalist Cedric Bancroft of Woore and Mid-Shropshire Inter League captain Tony Roche of Madeley CC. Sir John Bayley's Mike Hinton is another big name there along with Sam Owen from Broseley and Bylet's Tom McGill has played Flowfit Shropshire Premier League Bowls as recently as last season. Bill Titley from Newport did very well in Mid-Shropshire Division One last year and Les Willis of Broseley is a former player on Sinclair so will be hopeful home knowledge will help him qualify. Over at Bicton four Meole Brace and three Pontesbury players take part with John Nash and Bill Tarrell having played Premier League bowls for Meole Brace this season, along with Keith Owen and Pete Connor from the same club. From Pontesbury former winner Emlyn Jones will be hoping to regain the trophy with club mates Dave Povey and Tony France hoping to win it for the first time. Graham Jones from Bricklayers and Unison's Clive Jordan are also hoping to take one of the four tickets there to finals day, as well as Derek Flattley of Telepost and Tony Coles of Hadnall. The Veterans Merit Qualifiers take place on Monday 13th June at 1 p.m. Venues are below with 4 qualifiers at each. All games 21 up off 5.
