Father and Son: Last Year

A look back at last year's Father and Son Competition ahead of this year's at Prees at 11 a.m. County Father & Son Doubles – Sun 30th May 2015 Bayston Hill Bowling Club Farmers “reap” the rewards Qtr Finals Peter & James Farmer 21 – 17 Jolyon & Josh Partridge Peter & Rob Roden 21 – 15 Phil & Aaron King Mark & Lewis Rogers 21 – 14 John & Simon Madeley Chris & Adam Dovey 21 – 14 Tony & Mathew Rhodes Semi Finals Peter & James Farmer 21 – 06 Peter & Rob Roden Mark & Lewis Rogers 21 – 05 Chris & Adam Dovey Final Peter & James Farmer 21 – 03 Mark & Lewis Rogers A reduced field of 24 (32 in 2014) Father & Son pairings met on a mild Spring morning at what can only be described as a South Shrewsbury “hidden gem” of a venue, as we were greeted to the picture postcard and tranquil atmosphere married with the carpet-like surface of the bowling green of Bayston Hill BC that was to witness some of the highest quality of bowling prowess exhibited by both fathers and their youthful prodigies. As the day’s action lasting in excess of seven hrs drew to a close, Peter & James Farmer were putting the finishing touches to a near perfect display of corner bowling as they overcame Mark & Lewis Rogers 21-03 in the final. Highlights from Quarter finals Peter & James Farmer raced from 5-5 to lead 16-6 before last years winner Jolyon and this time round with his own son Josh pegged them back to 17-17 which alas went to no avail as the Farmers then finished the game 21-17. Mark & Lewis Rogers responded well to turn a 3-9 deficit into leads of 15-10 and 19-12 before ending John & Simon Madeley’s chances 21-14. Chris & Adam Dovey powered back from trailing 6-12 to lead Tony & Mathew Rhodes 15-14 and went on to run out winners 21-14. Cutting short his Cornish holiday, Peter and son Rob Roden converted a 7-0 lead into 14-2 before Phil & Aaron King fought back, reducing the deficit to trail 10-17 and 15-18 but then stalled as the Rodens finished 21-15 Highlights from the semi Finals Two quick fire semi-finals saw the victors in each game playing the same corners of the green with the crown of the green working to separate the ends. Peter & James Farmer, from 8-0 stormed into a 15-6(13ends) lead over Peter & Rob Roden and finished winning in the next 3 ends 21-6(16 ends) In an almost carbon copy of a game, Mark & Lewis Rogers carved out a lead of 8-5(9 ends) over Burway club mates Chris & Adam Dovey before running out 21-5(15ends) The Final Oddly enough, the final began with early exchanges being played in the opposite corners to those seemingly preferred until trailing 2-3 the Rogers changed to what would be their downfall as the Farmers relentlessly peppered the jack as their opponents unfortunately for them managed to find every gap as the game went from 5-3(6ends) rapidly to its conclusion 21-3(14ends) to give Peter & James Farmer the title. County President, Mike Potter was on hand to congratulate host club Bayston Hill BC for the provision of an excellent green, facilities and refreshments. Thanks were also expressed to competition secretary, Phil Scott and the competitors before the presentation of the prizes to the semi-finalists, finalists and the deserved 2015 Champions, Peter & James Farmer. 11247611_933104683379506_5702181125894487976_n
