Shropshire Cup 1st Round Draw Review

With the Shropshire Cup 1st Round Draw just a week away we have a look at what the draw threw up. The highlight of the draw was a clash between Mid-Shropshire Champions Donnington Wood and Whitchurch and Market Drayton Champions Hanmer at Battlefield. Both teams failed in their bid last year to reach the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League but didn't actually clash, so both teams will be hoping to get one over on each other if they are bidding to reach the Premier League again. Champions clash as Bowring take on Pontesbury at Chester Road Big Green, both teams having won leagues in recent years and played in the Premier League Playoffs. Two Division One teams clash at Newport No.1 as Tanners League Prince Hotel play Whitchurch and Market Drayton side Woore, while Tanners Division One rivals Old Shrewsbury and Telepost clash on Bayston Hill. Highley will be looking to cause another upset as they take on Tanners Division One side Battlefield on Sir John Bayley bottom green, so will Wem League Division 5 side Atcham who play Whitchurch and Market Drayton big guns Bridgwater on Whittington. Bridgnorth take on higher opposition in Mid-Shropshire rivals St Georges on Hadley USC, with Division Three Tanners side Greenfields aiming to upset Market Drayton Division One side Victoria at Trench. Mid-Shropshire Division One Madeley Cricket Club aim to avoid being shocked by Division Two Tanners side Hadnall on Edgmond and Tanners Division Two side Burway look to shock Mid-Shropshire Division One Allscott at Pontesbury New Green. There are some lower division clashes as Tanners Division Two Meole Brace Village play Division Three Church on Hanwood, Division Three Tanners side Worthen and Brockton play Mid-Shropshire Division Two side Charlton on Old Shrewsbury and Division Three Mid-Shropshire side Edgmond play same division rivals in the Tanners Monkmoor on Prees Old Green. Albert Road from Division Two in the Tanners will be aiming to spring a surprise against Division One Prees of the Market Drayton and Whitchurch Leagues. There are two Preliminary ties left to complete, Tanners Division One side Bricklayers will be favourite to beat Mid-Shropshire Division Two side Trench on Victoria, with the winner playing Castlefields of Division One Tanners.
