County Cup 2nd Round Draw Review

The 2nd round draw of the County Cup has thrown up some interesting ties, including 5 all Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League ties. A repeat of the 2011 and 2012 finals sees Chester Road take on Newport at Battlefield. Newport will be fancying their chances of regaining the trophy in 2012 and 2014 after beating St Georges so comfortably last round. But Chester Road have good cup pedigree, and pushed Newport all the way in the 2014 Semi Finals so will fancy their chances of causing an upset. Hanwood joint captain Mark Shore takes his team to face his former team Sir John Bayley on the Victoria Green. Hanwood caused an upset in beating last year's finalists Meole Brace last round and will relish a crack at the Bayley but they will be looking to repeat their successes in 2006 and 2013. The holders Castlefields take on Wrockwardine Wood in a repeat of the 3rd round last year which Castlefields won by 18. Wrockwardine Wood captain Tom Langford knows it won't be easy, "facing the holders Castlefields will be tough as they have strengthened and some of them will know the Adderley green well but we went close last year only to lose it in the back four on Prees. So if we can hold them again, (in the front eight) considering we have strengthened, then who knows what could happen."  Bylet take on Bowring in the last of the all premier league clashes, with both sides already having faced off in both the league and Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy both teams will be familar with each other, and they battle on St Georges Bottom Green. The only Premier League versus Non Premier League sees Hadley USC take on Tanners League Division 2 side Whittington on Pontesbury Old Green. There are two all non Premier League ties, Tanners leaders Prince Hotel taking on Division 1 rivals Pontesbury at Bayston Hill and Bricklayers play the only Mid-Shropshire League team remaining, Madeley Cricket Club on Prees Old Green. Chester Road v Newport at Battlefield SJB v Hanwood at Victoria Castlefields v Wrock Wood at Adderley Pontesbury v Prince Hotel at Bayston Hill Crescent v Ifton at Bridgewater (Big green) Bricklayers v Madeley CC at Prees Old HUSC v Whittington at Pontesbury Old Bylet v Bowring at St Georges Bottom Green Ties to be played on Wednesday 11th May.
